The Talented Tuesday

October 14th, 2010 by Bobby Defyant

Walk with me into this loading dock. Trust me it will be safe

So yesterday I went to an event called The Talented 2.0 put on by the good folks at D.Y. Lifestyle. It was an artist showcase featuring Stalley, Kokayi, and Diamond District. It was held at the warehouse loft. The title of the venue pretty much sums it up. I literally drove down a dark alley and was like is there a hip hop event here LOL. SOme scary movie ish. Went up three flights up stairs to a loft.

It was very cool chill atmosphere. It was also refreshing to see so many stylish people in one area. As soon as I got there I spotted the homie @vajohn. We rapped for a little and he introduced me to Phil Ade. Before the show began I ended up just rapping to Phil Ade & Stalley. This was one of those moments were trying to take a picture or sending a tweet would have ruined. It was very chill conversation nothing serious. The funny thing is most of the time we did even talk about music directly. Stalley talked about how over enthusiastic sneaker heads use to come into ALIFE and almost quiz him on the new sneaker releases. We also talked about how some people think that they on top of the world just because their employed at certain premiere boutiques. FUN TIMES

Stalley runs out mid convo because their introducing him on the stage. He runs out and gives a very impressive show. There was a lot energy and a lot of crowd participation. ALso have to mention that Stalley was rocking a letterman that was on 1000.

Next up was Kokayi, I saw him approach the stage and I thought this was going to be one of those artist intermission type performances. Someone who just performs to past time. Let me tell you how wrong I was. In my opinion he had the best performance. I am a FAN. F-A-N. All Caps. I definitely have to go buy all his music asap. He sold me with this one go-go rendition.

Last but not least was Diamond District. Funny Story, I always see XO promoting at all these events and I never knew he was part of Diamond District. I see him jump on stage and start rapping and I am like thats the guy who was passing out flyers at the Cmonwealth instore. I guess I should have paid attention to what he was handing out.

I think the best part of this event was there were a lot of upcoming and established artist and none of them were being to “HOLLYWOOD”. It always nice to interact with artist whose music you enjoy and not have to feel like they think that they too good to chat with the fans.

This was a very well executed event kudos to Lamine, Modi and Adrian and everyone else who is party of D.Y. Lifestyle.

But thats not all, after the show its the after party. So after the Talented 2.0, I went to Rock Creek Social Its a bi -weekly event held by yes you guessed it D.Y. Lifestyle at recess. The most interesting thing about recess is that its like literally across the street from the White House. I might be exaggerating but its pretty close. Talk about star studded. Wale, Phil Ade, Stalley & UCB where all in attendance and not to mention some of the flyest individuals from the DC metropolitan area. It was like the 2 for 1. I left work and was like let me catch this show because I never saw Stalley perform and ended up getting full hp hop show and a great after party. And guess how much I paid to do all this FREE.99. All this for Free.99, this ain’t no B.S. is it. This better than Calvin ish LOL.

Check out a couple snapshots from the event
