Ben’s Chili Bowl vs Ishkabibble’s (DC vs Philly week)

September 27th, 2010 by Bobby Defyant

VS

I am probably that fatest skinniest person on earth. I love food, my friends nicknamed me “The Human Trash Disposal” because I use to eat large amounts of food really fast. I also would do this without drinking anything until after I finished all my food. It’s a habit I picked up as kid. I love juice so I use to drink so much juice that I wouldn’t have any room left for my food. So my mom wouldn’t let me get any juice until after I finished all my food. That habit stuck with me for the most part.

The first in our week long battle between DC and Philly is Ben’s Chili Bowl vs Ishkabibble’s. First let me say I dont think I will ever be able to spell “Ishkabibble” with confidence LOL.

Ben’s Chili Bowl

Ben’s Chili Bowl was open in the summer of 1958 by Ben Ali. Ben’s Chili Bowl is located in the heart of the “U Street Corridor”. U street was known as “Black Broadway” during that time because of top performers could be seen playing sets at clubs along the corridor or just eating and hanging out. Ben’s is a DC landmark and many actors and presidents included have visited to catch a bite to eat.

Bob’s suggestion:

I always get the all beef hot dog and fries because I don’t eat pork but I hear the Chilli dogs are to die for. Next time your in DC you have to make sure you visit Ben’s.

Ishkabibble’s

Ishkabibble’s has been around since 1979, it is located on Philadelphia’s “South Street”. They are known best for their Cheesesteaks and their long lines lol. The wait can be similar to the dmv on a nice day, the food is so good people just take their number and wait patiently. I think I first heard about Ishkabibble when @get_dizzy tweeted about it. I thought I was hip to most of Philly’s attractions especially the ones located on South St. So the last time I went to Philly I made it point to go visit Ishabibble.

Bob’s suggestions:

Pizza Chicken Cheesesteak with sweet potato fries. The only thing better than some good french fries are some good sweet potato fries. Next time you’re in Philly check out Ishkabibble.

Whats your favorite meal from either establishment?
